Klahanie School’s Mission and Impact

Klahanie School, a Montessori Antibias Year-round curriculum-focused private school, is a beacon of hope for marginalized students and their families. Currently supporting six families with significant scholarships due to financial hardship, Klahanie School utilizes funds from grants and donations to supplement reduced tuition fees, alleviating economic stresses on families with children aged birth to six.

One of the significant challenges Klahanie School addresses is the need for more affordable spaces for low-income families in private rural county sectors. The school serves as a refuge, allowing families to have their tuition covered by grants, relieving them from the added stresses of private school budgetary obligations.

Klahanie School: Where Community Thrives and Futures Soar

Klahanie School is not just a school but a community hub fostering collaboration and support. During the summer, the school opens its doors to island marginalized students, offering ongoing education support in exchange for their attendance. This innovative approach ensures that district preschool students receive accessible educational opportunities during summer.

The school is on a journey towards accreditation by the American Montessori Society, aiming to expand educational community collaborations and opportunities. Klahanie School’s commitment to social responsibility is further exemplified through its teen intern program, where interns earn community service school credit for mentoring and classroom support. Remarkably, four out of five interns hosted at Klahanie School have successfully graduated from universities specializing in education, with a focus on Early Education/preschool and administration.

Montessori Antibias Antiracism Pedagogies

Klahanie School stands out not only for its academic excellence but also for its commitment to Montessori Antibias Antiracism pedagogies. The school employs social-emotional practices sustainably for young learners, emphasizing early peace practices as paramount. The grant awarded by Believe in Me enables Klahanie School to maintain its mission of community care for marginalized students, fostering equity and inclusion through antibias and antiracism work for young learners, interns, and families.
