A Swing for Success: Highlights from the Believe in Me Charity Golf Tournament
We are thrilled to share the highlights from the Believe in Me
David Vonbrethorst Memorial Charity Golf Tournament on June 17 at the beautiful Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley, ID. This year’s event was a tremendous success, bringing together over 130 passionate golfers and supporters to raise $125,000 to benefit marginalized kids in our community. With a day filled with friendly competition, scenic views, and the spirit of giving, we couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.
Event Overview
The event offered participants an unforgettable experience. Set against the stunning backdrop of Circling Raven Golf Club, one of the most scenic courses in the Pacific Northwest, the event included a round of golf, delicious pre and post-game meals, and refreshing drinks. Players had the opportunity to rally their golfing buddies and compete for a great cause, all while enjoying the camaraderie and support from our community.
Honoring David VonBrethorst
Each year, we have the honor of dedicating the tournament to the memory of David VonBrethorst, a revered PGA Professional and beloved Circling Raven Golf Club community member. David’s legacy is one of passion, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others. As John Blanchette wrote in the Spokesman-Review:
“Necessary to illustrate that for all the many sides to the man, there was always another to be found, and that however far he would go with his passions – his family and friends, his work as a pastor, coaching girls track and finally as a golf professional, most recently at Circling Raven Golf Club – he could always find it in himself to go beyond, especially in the furtherance of everyday needling… He made people believe in themselves.”
David’s impact on the golf community and beyond was profound, and we were proud to honor his memory through this event.
Tournament Highlights
The day was filled with highlights and memorable moments. Participants enjoyed a competitive yet fun atmosphere, with many sharing laughs and stories along the course. Despite a rainy start, spirits remained high as everyone embraced the weather and the challenge. A special highlight was the presence of Troy Teal, a five-time World Long Drive Championship competitor from 2013-2017 and an Air Force Combat Veteran. Positioned at hole 1 for a hole-in-one contest, Troy wowed the players with his incredible power and distance, providing an unforgettable experience. After the fun, albeit rainy, golf day, players gathered for a delightful dinner accompanied by a lively auction. The auction featured an array of exciting items, including a DryFly basket, Lamar outdoor advertising space, a Flatstick Pub party room, and an amazing photo session with Deni Linhart. Corporate sponsors played a significant role in the event’s success, providing essential support and fostering a sense of community. The tournament not only showcased incredible golfing talent but also highlighted the generosity and dedication of everyone involved.
