Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth: Morning Star Foundation’s 2020 Pride Charity Dinner

In 2020, hosting fundraising events presented significant challenges, especially for those focused on celebrating and supporting marginalized communities. However, despite the difficulties, the Morning Star Foundation was able to host a safe, socially distanced, in-person Pride Charity Dinner in collaboration with Odyssey Youth Movement and the Globe Bar & Kitchen in Spokane, Washington. This event celebrated the foundation’s “coming out” as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and raised funds to support struggling LGBTQ+ youth.

Food, Wine, and Fabulous Drag Show

The evening was filled with inspiring stories of coming out, where members of the LGBTQ+ community shared their experiences, creating new advocates for equality with every word spoken. The event featured a four-course meal, wine, and a fabulous drag show that left everyone feeling entertained and energized. But more than that, the Pride Charity Dinner provided an opportunity to create a space for dialogue and understanding and to highlight the need for support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Celebrating Coming Out: The 2020 Pride Charity Dinner

For many LGBTQ+ youth, coming out is a daunting and emotionally taxing process. It can be challenging to navigate the complexity of emotions and reactions from friends, family, and the community. And while progress has been made in recent years, there is still much work to be done to ensure that everyone feels safe and accepted. This is where organizations like the Morning Star Foundation come in. They provide much-needed resources and support for young people struggling with their identity and seeking acceptance.

Inspiring Stories and Creating New Advocates for Equality

The Pride Charity Dinner was a testament to the foundation’s commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The event’s ticket sales went towards the foundation’s efforts to help those who face challenges and stigma due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The funds raised go towards providing services and resources such as mental health counseling, support groups, and education on LGBTQ+ issues.

Supporting Struggling LGBTQ+ Youth

The collaboration with Odyssey Youth Movement, a local organization dedicated to empowering LGBTQ+ youth, added another layer of support to the evening. The organization offers a range of services, including mentorship, youth-led programming, and advocacy opportunities, all aimed at creating a more inclusive and accepting community for our youth.

Providing an Inclusive and Welcoming Space

The Globe Bar & Kitchen also played a crucial role in the event’s success. Owner, Scott Wilburn, and General Manager, Michael Calderon, generously hosted the Pride Charity Dinner, providing an intimate and welcoming space for attendees to celebrate, learn, and support each other. The Globe has been a beacon of light in the Spokane in recent years, promoting inclusivity and diversity through its support of community events.

Creating a More Inclusive and Accepting World

The 2020 Pride Charity Dinner was a night to remember, filled with love, support, and celebration. The Morning Star Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the LGBTQ+ community and raise awareness for the struggles faced by marginalized youth. Together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting world where everyone is valued and celebrated for who they are.
