Purpose

Believe in Me is organized for the principal purpose of stimulating, receiving, administering, and managing assets and funds for grant-making to programs serving youth in need of shelter, foster care, adoption, education, and emotional enrichment support and direction.

Our vision is to help every kid develop the self-confidence they need to succeed.

Mission

Leveraging the generosity of our donors, we fund children’s charities that provide disadvantaged kids with a safe place to call home, a family that loves them, a feeling of community, and opportunities to learn, build self-esteem, and have fun.

Believe in Me shall effectively raise funds and manage assets in a manner that is guided by the values of caring, trustworthiness, innovation, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Goal

The primary goal of Believe in Me is to raise funds and manage contributions to sustain and support children’s charities in the community that align with our Five Pillars of Caring. While the Board conducts business through our six committees, it is uniformly understood that the focus of all members is generating charitable gifts and to effectively sustain the Foundations ongoing operations through endowments.

General Responsibilities

  • Members are expected to attend 10/12 monthly Board meetings annually.
  • Members will serve on at least one of our seven committees.

1. Executive Governance Committee 2. Marketing Committee 3. Fundraising and Events Committee 4. Finance Committee 5. Alternative Investments and Property Management Committee 6. Grants Administration Committee 7. Nomination Committee

  • Members will actively engage in fundraising in specific ways best suited for them and in line with the Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethical standards.
  • Members are expected to participate in a minimum of one fundraising project a year.
  • Members are encouraged to give a cash gift of $1K per year in support of the Foundation’s general contribution fund and to support the Foundation through capital campaign gifts and estate gifts commensurate with their ability.
  • Members should have working knowledge and experience in finance and asset management.
  • Members will provide input to Believe in Me Chief Executive Officer regarding community perceptions of the brand.
  • Members will, at all times, conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the moral, values, and Code of Conduct of Believe in Me. Professionalism, respect, loyalty, and honesty will be the standard for all transactions administered by Believe in Me.

Fundraising

  • Members will assist in the identification of major donor prospects.
  • Members will collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Development Director) in developing a moves strategy for major gift prospects.
  • Members will support stewardship efforts by coordinating with the Chief Executive Officer and Development Director, thanking donors for their gifts through personal contact, letters, phone calls, and other activities.
  • Members will supply the Chief Executive Officer and Development Director with a call report, verbal or written, on each significant contact they make so data may be entered into the donor records.

Operations

  • Members are responsible for the stewardship of all Believe in Me assets.
  • Members are responsible for allocation of restricted and unrestricted funds in fulfillment of Believe in Me’s vision to “help every kid develop the self-confidence they need to succeed”.

*This role is purely voluntary and this arrangement is not meant to be legally binding or an employment contract. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and place of volunteering will be reimbursed pursuant to the Believe in Me Travel and Expense Reimbursement Policy.*
