• Time commitment: 1–2 hours of preparation plus one 4–8 hour shift
• Recommended team: 4–6 volunteers per event, including at least one separately verified first-aid provider where required by the venue plan

How this role helps

Help volunteers and guests find refreshments, accessible routes, rest areas, weather resources, and the correct staff or emergency contact.

Proactive hospitality and accessibility support help every participant feel respected, informed, and safe.

Responsibilities

• Review accessible routes, seating, restrooms, hydration, weather, and emergency procedures
• Welcome participants and help them locate approved services and accommodations
• Monitor common areas for supply needs, trip hazards, heat or weather concerns, and lost-person issues
• Contact venue staff, the designated first-aid provider, or emergency services according to the response plan
• Document only required incident facts and protect personal or medical privacy

Schedule and shifts

Orientation before the event plus one event-day, packing-day, or delivery-day shift. Expected commitment: 1–2 hours of preparation plus one 4–8 hour shift. Final shifts, meetings, and check-in instructions will be confirmed before placement.

CougsFirst! schedule: Seattle Show & Career Expo: Friday, May 29, 2026 at the 505 Building in Pioneer Square; public program 2:00–7:00 p.m. and show floor 4:00–7:00 p.m. Spokane: annual Spokane show; the 2026 date, venue, and Believe in Me volunteer call time are TBD. Final volunteer shifts will be confirmed before placement.

What a typical assignment looks like

Volunteers greet guests, monitor entrances and gathering areas, identify accessible routes, share approved wayfinding information, watch hydration and weather conditions, and promptly report hazards or guests who need staff assistance. This role provides hospitality and observation—not medical care, security enforcement, or unsupervised youth supervision unless separately assigned and qualified.

Event apparel

You’ll receive clear, event-specific guidance before each assignment so guests can recognize you and you can work comfortably. We’ll confirm any event apparel or seasonal accessories, along with practical footwear, layering, and weather recommendations.

Required qualifications

• Calm, observant, respectful, and able to follow escalation procedures
• Willing to complete accessibility, boundaries, and safety orientation
• Understands that this support role does not provide medical care unless separately qualified and assigned

Preferred experience

• Hospitality, disability inclusion, public safety, first aid, nursing, caregiving, or guest-service experience
• Current CPR/first-aid certification for designated first-aid assignments

Technology and equipment

Charged mobile phone or assigned radio. No personal recording of incidents.

Physical and accessibility considerations

Assignments vary and may be seated. Some outdoor shifts include walking and weather exposure.

Training and support

Accessibility and inclusion briefing, emergency action plan, incident reporting, privacy, venue contacts, and role boundaries.
